The body of a newborn baby found at a Bray waste facility this morning is a little girl who may have been stillborn.
The infant was found at the Greenstar facility in Fassaroe, Bray, Co Wicklow at around 11am.
Gardai have made a “heartfelt” appeal for the child’s mum to contact them.
The infant was discovered in the sorting area and the facility was then sectioned off.
Superintendent Pat Ward said:
“Our main focus is the mum, we’re very concerned for the health and welfare of the mother, we believe at this stage that the baby was stillborn, but if the child was stillborn or not, the mum will still medical attention. We are making a heartfelt appeal for the mum to contact us.”
The Garda Technical Bureau will look for forensic evidence to help identify the child.
A Garda spokseman said: “Gardai in Bray are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a newborn baby this morning at a recycling facility in Bray, Co Wicklow.”
