Donegal hotel’s incredible gesture to woman suffering from depression
Earlier this week Ireland Today spoke with Donegal lady, Leonie McLaughlin about her life with depression. Leonie was very honest in her account of the difficulties she experiences on a daily basis due to her illness.
Shortly after her story went live, a Donegal hotel very kindly made contact with Ireland Today with a very festive gesture.
Redcastle Hotel and Spa graciously offered Leonie and her husband a one night stay with dinner to celebrate their forthcoming first wedding anniversary in December.
Needless to say Leonie and John have accepted the kind offer with much gratitude and thanks.

Redcastle Hotel is set on the Inishowen peninsula, near Moville in Co. Donegal. Situated on the shore of Lough Foyle, this upscale golf resort and spa is 14 km from the A2, 25 km from Derry and 32 km from Derry Airport.
Decorated with bold colours and plush furnishings, the contemporary rooms include suede chairs, marble bathrooms, internet access and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels.
Suites add chic living areas and some rooms have sea views.
Modern dining is offered in a farm-to-table restaurant, while a casual bar serves a bistro menu.
In addition to an indoor pool, the leisure centre features a sauna, a Jacuzzi and a gym.

Leonie McLaughlin is a true ambassador for mental health in the North West of Ireland.
Her blog Where is My Sunshine is Leonie’s way of, ‘raising awareness of depression whilst I am on my own journey to recovery’.
Leonie is not ashamed to admit that she doesn’t know whether she will ever fully recover from her illness but she is determined not to let it win.
“I’m still the same person I always was,” she told us earlier this week.
“Every day is different” and every day she faces her battles with depression.
Here’s hoping that an overnight stay on her first wedding anniversary at Redcastle Hotel and Spa will set Leonie a little further along the way on her road to recovery.
