I’m homeless but I had a job and a home once
Welcome to Street View. This section will give snapshots in to the lives of ordinary Irish people. Ireland Today meets people every day and some of them wish to share their story with you.
Today we speak to one of the thousands of homeless people in Dublin city. He is a man who had a job, a home and now he lives on the streets of our capital.
I’m 46. I’m from Dublin. I went abroad for 25 years. I came back to Ireland, worked for about six months, then at the end of the Celtic Tiger, all the work dried up. I lost my flat, I became homeless and at the moment I have to beg to survive. There’s not much help now. With all the Government cutbacks, there is very little help for homeless people, you know? That’s pretty much it for me.
