Man and child may have tripped and fell to deaths in Dublin stream
A man and three-year-old boy found dead in a Dublin stream today, may have tripped and fallen in to the water.
Gardai were called at around 3pm to attend the Royal Canal at Ashington Green, Dublin 7.
The man and child are thought to have been visiting relatives to collect Easter eggs when they may have tripped over a wall and fell in to the stream, according to the Irish Times.
Gardai from Cabra are investigating.
A passer by alerted gardai.
Local Labour councillor Brendan Carr told the Irish Independent the community was “devastated” by the tragedy.
“Naturally our heart go out to the families involved in this incident. It is the second tragedy involving a child to occur in this body of water in recent years.
“It must now be a necessity to implement safety procedures and standards in this area,” he said.
Cllr Carr told the Irish Times another young child tripped over the same wall and drowned in the stream, in recent years.
